11th Annual Komen Southern Arizona
Race for the Cure®

April 19, 2009
Reid Park
Tucson, Arizona

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series is the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer. We are local activists in 124 cities and communities, mobilizing more than one million friends and neighbors every year through events like the Komen Race for the Cure Series. The more than 100,000 survivors and activists of Susan G. Komen for the Cure are the face and voice of the global breast cancer movement. With nearly $1 billion invested to date, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to curing breast cancer at every stage – from the causes, to the cures, to the pain and anxiety of every moment in between.

Since its inception in 1999, the Komen Southern Arizona Affiliate has raised over 5 million dollars through events like our Komen Southern Arizona Race for the Cure®. This money has been used to fund local life saving breast health and breast cancer programs throughout Southern Arizona and fund international research initiatives. Up to 75% of the funds raised stay in Southern Arizona to fund education, treatment and screening programs for under-served populations. The remaining 25% funds our nationally recognized research grants program. Susan G. Komen for the Cure has supported virtually every major advance in breast cancer research over the past 25 years, with research investments to date of more than $300 million, some of which has come back to the University of Arizona.
